An incredibly rare, factory original Bulova Accutron Spaceview watch dating to 1969, housing the 2181 tuning fork movement. The 214 Spaceview model is well known and regularly seen for sale but it is very unusual to come across this 218 Spaceview, so much so that many collectors are unaware that they exist and until a few years ago I was one of them. I had to travel to the USA to find at a specialist watch convention, that this model was manufactured by Bulova, albeit in very small numbers compared with the 214. The few that I have seen were all manufactured in 1969. I am now so besotted by the 218 Spaceview that I am continually seeking out to buy one of the few examples that still exist today and I picked this one up in early October on a trip to San Diego. It is only the fifth that I have owned in the 15 years I have been selling vintage watches. In great original condition, this watch has a 14 carat gold filled case and a see-through skeletonised dial with the correct outer ring and calendar aperture. The watch presents very well indeed on the wrist and having just been serviced by an Accutron specialist, it is running strongly and keeping time with the date function operating correctly. A service will cost upwards of £200 and the next service should not e needed for some years, so please factor this in when considering my competitive askiing price for this watch. It is quadruple signed on the case, movement, dial and crown.
You can do a Goggle search to find images of this model but you may not see another 218 Spaceview watch for sale in the UK for a very long time; so if this model interests you, do not let the opportunity to buy it pass you by.
Case: 14 carat gold filled, in very good condition with the expected light marks from use over forty nine years but absolutely no signs of abuse, dents or scratches of significance that I could see to draw to your attention. The case is signed "Bulova" on the outside of the rear cover, hallmarked as 14K gold filled and bearing the reference "M9" which dates the watch to 1969. The case measures approximately 40 mm from lug to lug and 34 mm across, excluding the signed crown.
Watch Face: see through skeletonised style with the correct Accutron outer minutes chapter ring, signed above 12 o'clock and bearing the Accutron tuning fork emblem at 6 o'clock.
Movement: cal. 2181 Accutron Tuning Fork movement freshly serviced, running strongly and keeping time. The date function operates correctly. If you hold the watch to your ear you can hear it humming.
Strap: generic black leather strap which fitted to the watch measures approximately 214 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
