Of all the wristwatches manufactured by Bulova and they produced hundreds of different models over a span of more than half a century, the Accutron Tuning Fork electric watch is one of their most iconic and highly sought after models. With many variants produced, the Accutron was ahead of its time in both design and technology. When first introduced in 1960, the electric watch had only been released to the retail market a few years earlier (by Hamilton in 1957) and it was to be another ten years or so before the quartz watch would quickly dominate the market.
The watch listed for sale is a 10 carat rolled gold Bulova Accutron watch, housing the cal. 2182 day/date movement, manufactured in 1975. it comes with its original presentation box, Accutron strap and buckle and with papers showing how to fit the battery. In great original condition, this watch presents very well indeed the movement is running perfectly and keeping time. It is signed on the case, dial, crown, movement, strap and buckle. Please note that replacement batteries are readily available for this watch.
Case: 10K rolled gold back with a gold plated bezel, in very good condition with crisp sharp contours. It measures approximately 41 mm from lug to lug and 34 mm across, excluding the signed crown. The rear cover is retained by a stainless steel ring. I could see no blemishes of any significance to point out to you. The back of the case is marked "N5" which dates it to 1975. There is also a presentation engraving on the rear cover.
Dial: original and un-restored in very good condition with a champagne satin finish. It is signed "Accutron" and displays the tuning fork emblem. Hours are marked by gold coloured batons . The crystal is clean and clear with some light surface scratches.
Movement: cal. 2182 Accutron Tuning Fork movement running perfectly and keeping time. If you hold the watch to your ear you can hear it humming.
Strap: fitted with a Bulova strap to which is fitted a buckle signed "Bulova".
Box: Accutron presentation box in good condition. The hinges are good. I noticed a hairline crack to the rear of the case when preparing the photography session.
