A fabulous Gruen Veri-Thin Precision 14 carat solid gold gentleman’s watch dating to the 1940's, in great overall condition. The watch has a gorgeous extra long chunky lugs. The dial presents very well and the freshly oiled and adjusted movement is running strongly and keeping time. The watch is signed four times on the dial, case, crown and movement. Please note carefully the dimensions of the watch case shown below. Gents watches from this period were made much smaller than contemporary watches so this watch will also be of interest to a lady seeking a watch oozing with retro appeal.
Case: 14 carat solid gold in great condition. The outside of the rear cover is hallmarked as 14K gold and signed "Gruen", as is the inside. The case measures approximately 30 mm across, excluding the signed crown and 38 mm from lug to lug. It shows the expected signs of careful use over the years but absolutely no signs of abuse, dents or scratches of any significance that I could see to draw to your attention.
Dial: finished in satin silver and signed "Gruen Veri-Thin Precision". Applied gold coloured Arabic numerals and arrow batons mark the hours, the hands are in very good shape and the crystal is clean and clear. The dial has just been returned from restoration to a high standard back to as it looked when new.
Movement: Gruen cal. 415 movement with 17 jewels, freshly oiled and adjusted, running well and keeping time.
Strap: fitted with a new old stock generic genuine lizard calf (not grain) leather strap. Fitted to the watch it measures approximately 204 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
This fabulous watch is some seventy five years old, in great condition and highly collectible. It will make a very good investment but it is also a stunning watch to wear. Do not miss the opportunity to buy this watch as these models do not come up for sale very often in the UK.
