A gentlemans' 10 carat gold filled Memovox alarm watch from Jaeger LeCoultre, manufactured in 1953. This timepiece is one of the earlier versions of the alarm watch, signed "Wrist Alarm" on the dial (not "Memovox" as with the later 1960's models). It is in great overall condition. The case is larger than JLC wrist alarm watches normally found from this period , measuring 35 mm in diameter instead of 32 mm. It presents well as does the dial and the manual movement is running strongly and keeping time, with the alarm function working correctly. The domed crowns match and are correct for the period. The watch is signed in three places, on the dial, case and movement.
Case: 10 carat gold filled in good condition, measuring approximately 35 mm across, excluding the matching crowns (replaced due to normal wear) and 38 mm in overall length. The inside of the rear screw back cover is marked "10KT Gold Filled" and signed "LeCoultre". This 66 year old timepiece is used and therefore has the expected marks from use. The front of the case looks great but I noticed tool marks on the back of the case caused by opening it with the wrong tools.
Dial: in great condition, looking to be factory original, finished in antique white with a silver ring circling the inner alarm dial. The dial is signed “LeCoultre Wrist Alarm Swiss”. Raised gold coloured batons and black Arabic numerals mark the hours. The recently crystal is clean and clear.
Movement: high quality 17 jewelled manual cal. K814 movement, running strongly and keeping time. The watch is wound and set by the lower crown and the alarm is wound and set by the upper crown. Both functions operate correctly.
Strap: fitted with a new distressed brown leather strap. Fitted to the watch it measures approximately 2012 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
