A rarely seen 14K solid gold Memovox alarm watch from Jaeger LeCoultre, dating to 1953, in superb overall condition. All solid gold Memovox watches are rare but this is only the third of the earlier more ornate solid gold Wrist Alarm models that I have managed to acquire in over 14 years as a dealer and 25 years as a collector. This watch looks absolutely stunning. It has an elegant classic case with attractive curled lugs and a gorgeous dial with a sweep seconds hand and an alarm arrow marker on the inner disc. The manual movement was serviced by a master watchmaker in June 2015. Needless to say it is running strongly and keeping time, with the alarm function working perfectly. The watch is fitted new good quality Hirsch leather strap and the crystal was replaced recently, so this fabulous watch is ready to wear. It is signed in three places, on the dial, case and movement.
Case: 14 carat solid gold in great condition, measuring approximately 32 mm across, excluding the matching crowns and 40 mm in overall length. The inside of the rear cover is signed LeCoultre and the outside is hallmarked as 14K solid gold. This watch has been carefully looked after over sixty five years and probably only worn occasionally. It is showing the expected light marks from careful use over the years but absolutely no signs of abuse, dents or significant scratches that I could see to point out to you. As with most manual vintage watches, the matching crowns have been replaced at some time as the original ones for a watch of this age nearly always worn.
Dial: finished in satin silver border, signed “LeCoultre Wrist Alarm” with gold coloured batons and Arabic numerals marking the hours. The crystal is clean and clear. The dial has been professionally restored to a high standard.
Movement: high quality 17 jewelled manual cal. 489/1 movement, running strongly and keeping time. The watch is wound and set by the lower crown and the alarm is wound and set by the upper crown. Both functions operate correctly. The watch was serviced in June 2015 and has been rarely used since.
Strap: fitted with a Hirsch black leather strap which attached to the watch measures approximately 210 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
