A gorgeous Longines fourteen carat solid gold Art Deco gentlemans' vintage manual watch dating to 1950, in very good overall condition. The classic Longines rectangular case and the two tone quad dial present very well. The crystal is facetted, in vogue in the 1950's and causes some slight distortion to the dial in some of the photos although the naked eye compensates. The movement is running strongly and keeping time. A new leather strap has just been fitted so this watch is ready to wear. The watch is triple signed, on the dial, case, and movement. Art Deco Longines watches are now becoming very hard to find as most seem to have disappeared into private collections.
Dial: two tone satin silver in good condition with a hint of patina. It is divided into quadrants. The two tone effect can be seen as the watch is held at different angles to catch the light. The dial is signed "Longines" together with the famous winged emblem. Hours are marked by applied gold batons. The Dauphin hands are in very good shape and a recessed subsidiary seconds dial is located just above the 6 o'clock position. The faceted crystal, which may well be original to the watch, is clean and clear.
Case: 14 carat solid gold in great condition, presenting very well on the wrist. The inside and outside of the case are hallmarked as 14K gold and the inside is signed "Longines". It measures approximately 38 mm from lug to lug and 23 mm across, excluding the crown. The case shows the inevitable signs of use over the years but no signs of abuse, dents or scratches of any significance that I could see to draw to your attention.
Movement: freshly oiled and adjusted, the Longines cal. 9L movement has 17 jewels set in solid gold casings. It is running well and keeping time. The serial number dates the watch to 1950. This power unit is probably Longines most famous and reliable unit, used in their watches from the 1930's through to the 1960's.
Strap: fitted with a new brown leather strap which attached to the watch measures approximately 205 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
