A beautiful Longines 14 carat solid gold gentleman’s watch dating to 1952 in excellent overall condition. Longines, in my opinion, produced some of the most attractive watches in the world, turning items of utility into stunning pieces of jewellery. The design of this watch is one of the most elegant and beautiful I have seen from Longines (and I have collected a large number). It is the rarely seen knotted lugs model with a frame around the perimeter of the case. The watch presents very well indeed on the wrist and the freshly oiled and adjusted movement is running strongly and keeping time. It is triple signed, on the dial, case and movement. Do please look carefully at the dimensions of the watch and bear in mind that gents watches from this period were made smaller than today. Therefore this watch will also be suitable for a lady looking for a larger watch from the 1940's, oozing with retro appeal and elegance.
Case: 14 carat solid gold in amazing condition, measuring approximately 32 mm across, excluding the crown and 41 mm from lug to lug. The frame running around the perimeter of the case and the ornate lugs are a real feature of this watch. They are fashioned into a knot design and look stunning when the watch is worn. The inside of the rear cover is signed Longines and also hallmarked as 14K gold. There are the expected light marks on the case inevitable from responsible and probably infrequent use but no dents or scratches of any significance that I could see to draw to your attention. There is a 25 year presentation engraving on the rear cover.
Dial: satin silver with a textured border, signed "Longines" and bearing the famous winged emblem. Applied gold coloured arrow batons and Arabic numerals mark the hours. The hands are in good shape and the crystal is clean and clear. The dial has just been returned from professional restoration to a very high standard.
Movement: Longines cal. 22L movement with 17 jewels set in solid gold casings, running strongly and keeping time. The serial number dates the watch to 1952.
Strap: currently fitted with a used generic black leather strap. I decided to fit a new regular size black strap but will also send the strap currently fitted.
