Omega Constellation stainless steel automatic chronometer wristwatch manufactured in 1966. In great overall condition, the case and dial present very well indeed and the movement runs strongly and keeps time. This timepiece is signed four times, on the case, dial, crown and movement.
The vintage Constellation was Omega's top of the range waterproof chronometer and today it remains one of the most ionic, sought after and collectible of all vintage watches. It is a high end model, produced to compete with other prestige watches made by its main competitors. A chronometer, as opposed to a choreograph (a stop watch), is a timepiece that has passed a series of stringent tests carried out by the world’s major observatories to demonstrate very accurate time keeping (hence the observatory emblem on the rear cover).
Dial: in very good condition, finished in satin silver with hours marked by applied silver coloured batons. The dial is signed "Omega Automatic Chronometre Constellation Swiss Made". It also bears the Omega emblem and Constellation Star. The crystal is clean and clear. I believe the dial may have received professional restoration at some years ago as I would expect a factory original dial on a 53 year old watch to show more signs of ageing.
Case: stainless steel, in great condition, measuring approximately 34 mm across, excluding the signed crown and 43 mm from lug to lug. It shows the expected light marks from careful use over the years but absolutely no signs of abuse, dents or scratches of any significance that I could see to draw to your attention. The back of the case displays the observatory emblem in the centre with all eight stars are visible. Looking inside the rear cover it is signed "Omega".
Movement: cal. 551 Omega automatic chronometer grade movement with 24 jewels and adjustment to five positions for chronometer standard accuracy. Freshly oiled and adjusted, it is running well and keeping time. The serial number, dates the watch to 1966.
Strap: new generic brown leather lizard grain strap. Fitted to the watch, it measures approximately 212 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
