Sorry I am sold
A gents stainless steel manual watch in excellent overall condition, manufactured by the International Watch Company (IWC), one of the most prestigious watchmakers in the world. This fabulous example dates to 1959. You will be hard pressed to find another fifty eight year old watch in this condition. The case and dial present very well indeed and the freshly oiled and adjusted movement is running perfectly and keeping time. This watch is signed three times, on the dial, case, and movement. This is a an expensive connoisseur’s watch made by a low volume elite company which has a reputation among aficionados for producing some of the finest quality watches in the world. The movements in these watches are pure works of art and of a quality which is second to none. The legendary cal. 89 movement housed in this watch is one of the most reliable and robust units manufactured by IWC. To those who have only a passing interest in top quality watches, an IWC watch is not immediately obvious as a high end timepiece but at auctions, hammer prices of IWC models often surpass the levels reached by more well known high end makes. IWC watches are truly remarkable and HIGHLY sought after by collectors (who must have at least one) as well people wanting to wear a watch with elegance and understated sophistication.
Case: made of stainless steel, in very good condition indeed, one of the best I have seen in a while. The case measures approximately 35 mm across, excluding the un-signed crown and 42 mm from lug to lug so it is a larger case than those normally seen from the 1950's. The inside of the rear cover is fully signed by IWC and includes the famous circular logo containing the words “IWC Probus Scafusia”. The case shows the inevitable light signs of careful and probably infrequent use over the years but absolutely no signs of abuse, dents or scratches of any significance that I could see to point out to you.
Dial: satin silver finish, signed “International Watch Co. Schaffhausen Swiss”. The hours are marked by silver coloured batons. The hands are in very good shape and the crystal is clean and clear. The dial has just been returned from professional restoration back to as it looked when new.
Movement: IWC cal. 89 17 jewel mechanism with damaskeened plates (Geneve stripes). The watch winds and sets perfectly, runs and keeps time. The movement is signed “International Watch Co. Swiss”. The serial number dates the watch to 1959.
Strap: fitted with a good quality brown leather crocodile grain strap, which attached to the watch measures approximately 215 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
