S0RRY I HAVE BEEN PURCHASED
This watch is a rarely seen gentlemans' 18 carat solid gold Memovox "Worldtimer" automatic wrist alarm watch from Jaeger LeCoultre, manufactured for the European market in 1958. It is in fabulous condition. The "Worldtimer", along with the "Parking" variant of the Memovox range hardly ever come up for sale. This is only the fourth "Worldtimer" I have managed to acquire during the fifteen years years I have been selling vintage watches. And to come across an 18 carat solid gold one with an automatic movement is a truly amazing find. It has been in my personal collection for a while but fortunately I derive almost as much pleasure from photographing and selling beautiful watches to discerning customers as I do owning them; so I have decided to sell this wonderful timepiece to make way for new additions. This watch is likely to attract considerable interest. The large size case and dial present beautifully and the movement is running strongly and keeping time. The alarm is working perfectly as is the world time function. The watch is signed on the dial, case, both crowns and the movement.
The "Worldtimer" was designed for "businessmen, stockbrokers, journalists and travellers". To operate the world timer function, the hour hand is aligned with the city where the time zone is the same as that in which the wearer is located. The time in other cities can be ascertained by reading the hour off the outer alarm disc that lines up with the city of interest. The alarm and world time functions operate independently of each other and cannot be operated simultaneously.
Dial: signed “Jaeger LeCoultre Automatic Swiss" finished in satin silver with hours marked by applied gold coloured batons. The centre disc, shows the different time zones. The hands are in good shape and the crystal is clean and clear.
Case: 18 carat solid gold, in great condition, measuring approximately 36 mm across, excluding the signed matching crowns and 46 mm in overall length. The inside rear cover is hallmarked as 18K solid gold with a Swiss Assay. It is signed "Memovox" on the outside of the back cover and shows the correct Jaeger LeCoultre signature on the inside, denoted by a fir tree with the letters "L" and "C" on either side of the tree. The case shows the expected light marks from use but absolutely no signs of abuse or any blemishes of significance that I could see to point out to you.
Movement: Jaeger LeCoultre 17 jewelled manual cal. K815 automatic bumper movement running strongly and keeping time. The watch is wound and set by the lower crown and the alarm is set by the upper crown. Please see above for instructions for operating the world time function. All functions operate correctly.
Strap: fitted with a new generic brown leather crocodile grain strap which attached to the watch measures approximately 220 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
