SORRY I HAVE BEEN PURCHASED
This watch is a rare model. It the first Memovox wrist alarm watch manufactured by Jaeger LeCoultre, released to the market in 1950 and introduced to the public at the 1951 Basel Fair. This watch is a European model, signed "Jaeger LeCoultre" on the dial and movement, with an 18 carat solid gold case and a cal. 489 movement. The case has tubular lugs, designed to slightly lift the case from the wrist to increase the volume of the alarm. It is in original un-restored condition, other than the matching crowns, which as with nearly all vintage watches, have been replaced at some time due to normal use. This watch looks fabulous, with a great looking case and factory original dial. The movement is running strongly and keeping time, with the alarm function working perfectly. A new good quality Hirsch leather strap has been fitted so this watch is ready to wear. The watch is correctly signed on the case, dial and movement. You can see this same model on page 106 of Zaf Basha's book "Jaeger LeCoultre a guide for the collector".
Case: 18 carat solid gold in very good condition indeed, measuring approximately 35 mm across, excluding the matching crowns and 38 mm in overall length. The inside of the rear cover is hallmarked as 18 carat solid gold with a Swiss Assay. This watch has been carefully looked after during the last 69 years. It is a used watch and therefore has the expected marks from responsible use but absolutely no signs of abuse, dents or scratches of significance that I could see to draw to your attention.
Dial: factory original, in great condition with a two tone finish and signed “Jaeger LeCoultre Swiss”. Applied gold coloured batons mark the hours. The crystal is clean and clear. The dial is showing gentle patina and I would rate the condition to be remarkable for a watch that is nearing 70 years of age. It would be a crime to even contemplate any restoration which would most certainly devalue the watch.
Movement: high quality 17 jewelled manual cal. K489 movement, signed "Jaeger LeCoultre" running strongly and keeping time. The watch is wound and set by the lower crown and the alarm is wound and set by the upper crown. Both functions operate correctly.
Strap: fitted with a new good quality Hirsch black leather strap. Fitted to the watch it measures approximately 205 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
