A rare Marc Favre Bienne nine carat solid gold gents cushion case watch dating to 1937, manufactured for the British market and cased in England. Marc Favre Bienne was a Swiss watchmaker established in the 19th century. Marc Favre Co. was part of the Union Horlogère SA in the 1920's. The Union was established to purchase watch components and organise their manufacturing. In 1955 the Omega group purchased Marc Favre Co. The name has now disappeared and consequently watches from this watchmaker rarely come up for sale. This seventy eight year old watch is in very good condition and to have remained in this condition has not received regular use over the years. The case and dial look great and the movement has just been oiled and adjusted so it is is running perfectly and keeping time. I have just fitted a new brown genuine alligator calf strap. The watch comes with its original presentation box, showing it to have been sold by a Manchester jeweller.
Case: 9 carat solid gold measuring approximately 28 mm across, excluding the original crown and 34 mm from lug to lug. In very good condition, the case shows the expected light signs of careful and probably infrequent use over the years but absolutely no signs of abuse, dents or scratches of any significance that I could see to draw to your attention. The inside of the rear cover is hallmarked as 9K solid gold and bears the London Assay which dates the watch to 1937.
Dial: signed "Marc Favre Bienne", finished in antique white with a satin silver border around the subsidiary seconds dial. The hours are marked by black Arabic numerals. The blued steel hands are in great shape and the crystal is clean and clear. I have just had the dial professionally restored back to as it looked when new.
Movement: Marc Favre Co. 15 jewel movement, freshly oiled and adjusted by Richard my watchmaker in preparation for sale. It is running strongly and keeping time.
Strap: fitted with a new brown genuine alligator calf bespoke strap for fixed lugs. Attached to the watch it measures approximately 2010 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
Presentation Box: original wooden presentation box showing wear to the top but no tears heavy scratches. The interior is good as are the hinges and clasp.
