A most attractive 18 carat solid rose gold Universal Geneve gentlemans' vintage manual watch dating to the 1950's in great overall condition. The case and dial present very well and the movement is running strongly and keeping time. The watch is signed in three places, on the case, dial and movement. Universal is a high class niche watchmaker, relatively unknown (and some would say a well kept secret), producing the highest standards of quality for discerning buyers. Vintage Universal Geneve watches are very popular among serious and knowledgeable collectors who appreciate the fine quality and craftsmanship that went into these timepieces.
Case: 18 carat solid rose gold, in very good condition indeed with the expected signs of careful use over the years but no dents or scratches of any significance that I could see to draw to your attention. The inside of the rear cover is signed Universal Geneve and hallmarked as 18 carat gold with a Swiss Assay. There is also a hallmark underneath one of the lugs. The case measures approximately 32 mm across, excluding the crown and 39 mm from lug to lug. There is a presentation engraving on the rear cover.
Dial: satin silver finish in very good condition, signed "Universal Geneve Swiss" with hours marked by applied gold coloured Roman numerals and dots. The hands are in good shape and the crystal is clean and clear. The dial shows gentle even patina.
Movement: Universal Geneve cal. 264 Swiss manual movement with 17 jewels running well and keeping time.
Strap: fitted with a good quality generic brown leather strap which attached to the watch measures approximately 206 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
