A Vacheron Constantin - LeCoultre "Galaxy" 14 carat solid white gold, diamond encrusted mystery dial manual gentlemans' vintage watch manufactured 63 years ago in 1956. The Galaxy model is the only collaboration that ever took place between Vacheron Constantin and Jaeger LeCoultre. It was marketed and sold by both companies, with the back of the case marked "Vacheron & Constantin - LeCoultre Watches Inc." and the dial signed "LeCoultre". If you are interested please scroll down below the photographs to read more about the myths legends and links between these two companies.
This watch is rare and highly collectable. It is in great cosmetic condition and the freshly oiled and adjusted high grade LeCoultre movement is running strongly and keeping time. The case has gorgeous tear drop lugs and the stunning dial is set with 37 genuine diamonds set in 14K solid white gold casings.
Case: 14K carat solid white gold in very good condition, with the expected signs of careful and probably infrequent use over the years but absolutely no signs of abuse, dents or any scratches of significance that I could find to point out to you. The case measures approximately 34 mm across, excluding the crown and 41 mm in length. The outside of the rear cover is hallmarked as 14K solid gold and signed "Vacheron & Constantin - LeCoultre Watches Inc." The inside is signed "LeCoultre".
Dial: signed "LeCoultre Swiss", finished in satin silver with hours marked by 35 diamonds set in solid white gold casings. The minute hand which is set with a diamond, rotates in the same manner as a conventional dial but instead of an hour hand, a separate circular inner dial rotates around the outer section once every twelve hours. A diamond hour marker gives the illusion that the hour hand mysteriously floats around the dial with no immediately obvious anchor point. The dial has just been returned from restoration to a high standard by a company specialising in Jaeger LeCoultre watches, based in Los Angeles USA.
Movement: high quality cal. K480/CW, 17 jewel manual movement signed “Le Coultre Co”. Having just been oiled and adjusted by my watchmaker it is running strongly and keeping time.
Strap: fitted with a generic black leather strap which attached to the watch measures approximately 212 mm from buckle tip to last hole.
